We were tasked with creating a short narrative using a three-act structure. There were no limits on the topic, so my team chose to make a comedy-horror film that pokes fun at itself and embraces its own absurdity.
In this project, my role was as a cameraman, but I was also the brains of the whole operation. I made sure we stayed on task while micro mananging where everyone needed to be and what they needed to do in the scene. I played this role because I with the help of my teamates came up with the idea for this project but I wrote the lore and the narrative plot to the story.
The goal of our video was to make people laugh. We wanted the audience to enjoy the absurd horror and quirky moments of the short. I believe we succeeded, our film brightened the room and brought some joy to people’s day.
This short didn’t come without challenges. There were several issues we had to overcome, which, in hindsight, actually made the film even funnier. At one point, we accidentally left the audio device unplugged, which resulted in poor sound quality. Later, when we fixed the connection, we didn’t check the audio levels, leading to an unexpectedly loud scene. Ironically, it added to the humor.
Here’s the moodboard, which includes everyone's roles, a brief story summary, the "script" we used to guide filming, and my Capyskill.
